Labels : I am not a fan of labels but I have 2 labels.
- ASTHMA – Label given to me. I have a prescription on repeat.
As a child I had a constant cough whenever I did sport, and being so active as a child coughing non stop was such a inconvenience for me more so when I was playing Basket Ball which was my biggest passion! I would be coughing hysterically down the sideline puffing on my inhaler refusing to be subbed off! It never stopped me playing though ever.
I grew out of it slightly, until I moved to the middle east where I lived for 16 years and over there is huge pollution issues.
Still, never stopped me in the gym or prevent me running my marathons! Fast track to now, where I am living back in UK , I have my regular blue inhaler, I am suppose to take it regular through the day to keep the asthma under control, but if I do that I get the shakes !
I have Salbutamol which is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and COPD such as coughing, wheezing and feeling breathless. It works by relaxing the muscles of the airways into the lungs, which makes it easier to breathe. Salbutamol comes in an inhaler (puffer). Salbutamol inhalers are usually blue. I never take my inhaler in public and do feel a little embarrassed using it but I guess its important that I do.
I train 5 days a week and my asthma is never used as an excuse of not training. I wanted to share this little story to point out that we can create excuses for exercise all day long, and as real as the symptoms may be, could it just be an psychological barrier some of us put in place to stop us doing exercise?
🔖 Labels. Depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar , PTSD are all labels. Do labels take away the responsibility of getting better or getting help ?
Or do they help us get the support we need?
Do labels give clarification and peace of mind or do they give us excuse of actions? Do you have a label? Suffer mental health? Or just general day to day stresses ? Then why not book in with me to see if I can help .
Part of an healing session with myself starts with relaxation. I don’t even have to know your issue to be able to help you.
